Thomas W. Bowers, age 78 of Bryan, passed away Thursday morning at St. Joseph Regional Health Care Center. Mr. Bowers was born December 28, 1925 in Waelder, Texas to Eugene & Ruth Jay Bowers.

Mr. Bowers received his B.S. degree from Texas Tech and a Masters degree from Texas A&M University. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from Texas A&M University as an Agronomist in the Ag Ed department.

Mr. Bowers was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Welder, Texas, he was a member of the State Forestry Association, he was a former director of the Limestone Association in Bryan and worked with the USAID for Texas A&M in the Dominican Republic, he volunteered for many years with Habitat for Humanity and was a former County Extension Agent in Leon County and an assistant agent in Cherokee County. He enjoyed gardening, watching the stock market and spending time on his tree farm in Waskom, Texas.

He is survived by his wife Doris Bowers of Bryan, two sons and daughters-in-law Jay R. & JoLea Bowers of College Station and Mac E. & Donna Bowers of Tyler, Texas, a daughter Leigh Ann Bowers of Ann Arbor, Michigan and six grandchildren Matthew Thomas Bowers, Brittany Bowers, Tim Blakemore, Nicole Cronkhite, Courtney Bowers and Caleb Bowers.

A Memorial Service will be held today at 4pm in the First United Methodist Church of Bryan with Reverends Matt Idom and Bob Richers officiating. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date.
