James Alloway Dies - James Alloway, 76, passed away at 6 p.m. yesterday at the home of his half-brother, Mont Duncan, 2819 Fourteenth Street. Death resulted from complications incident to his advanced age. He has been in failing health the last seven years but had been able to be up and about the house most of the time until last Sunday night when he became bedfast.

Mr. Alloway was born May 1, 1856, at Strawberry Point, Ia. When he was about 9 years old he moved with his parents to Ashland, Neb., where he grew to manhood. He then went to Louisville, where he was married to Miss Mollie Johnson. They farmed for some years in that vicinity, then spent several years in Kansas, returning to Louisville in 1892, where he purchased a farm and where he was engaged in the livery business in partnership with a brother for many years and also followed the masonry trade.

Mr. Alloway passed away at Louisville in 1925. Two years ago, after his health had become seriously impaired. Mr. Alloway came to Columbus to make his home with Mrs. and Mrs. Duncan.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank Ross, of Louisville, and two half-brothers, Mont Duncan, of Columbus, and Poly Duncan, of Kansas City. The body will be taken to Louisville Monday morning, where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. that day in the Methodist church, with Rev. G. A. Murphree, the pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in the cemetery there. The body will lie in state at the McKown funeral home here until Monday.

The funeral of James Alloway was held Monday afternoon at the M.E. Church, the remains having been brought to Louisville for interment, from Columbus, where Mr. ALloway died at the home of his half-brother, Mont Duncan, of that place. He had been ill only three days, although he had been in failing health for a number of years. He was 76 years old.

Mr. Alloway was an early pioneer of this locality and was loved and respected by a large circle of friends. For many years he was associated with Charles VanSoyoc in Mason work and this took them all over this part of the country so that he had a wide acquaintance. He has made his home in Columbus for about three years.

A niece, Mrs. Warren Carter, brought the body to Louisville. Sam Hoge, the undertaker of Columbus, was in charge and he was assisted by our local morticians, Stander & Stander.

The services were held at the M. E. Church, the pastor, rev. Robert d. Murphree officiating. The pallbearers were former friends and were Mr. Van Scoyoc, A. H. Peterson, Jacob Reichart, Charles Knutson, William H. Hoover, and Martin Sjogren. Interment was in the family lot in River View Cemetery.

Mr. Alloway is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Frank Ross, one grandson, Jack Ross, and two granddaughters, Isabelle and Jeanne Ross, of Louisville.

The many friends of Mr. Alloway were saddened at the news of his death and they join with the Courier in extending sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
