At his home in this city, Tuesday morning, at 4:30 o'clock, occurred the death of Patrick Claer, Sr., aged 84 years, of complications of stomach trouble and general debility, from which he had been suffering for some time.
The deceased was born in Wexford county, Ireland, March 17, 1820, where he lived until he was 27 years old. He came to America and settled at Toronto, Canada, in 1847, and worked for a number of years boating on the Grand river, and afterwards gave his attention to agricultural pursuits near Lucan, Ontario. In the year 1873 he moved to Palo Alto county, Iowa, and settled on what is now the town site of Ayrshire. Mr. Claer has always been a thorough Christian, of Catholic faith, and a man of noble character, beloved by all who knew him. He is survived by two brothers, Chris Claer, of this county, and Thos. Claer, of Ireland. Besides these, he leaves a wife, two sons and a daughter to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held in the church of the Sacred Heart, and interment took place in the Catholic cemetery. The entire community extends heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. -- Ayrshire Chronicle.
