Eva Leona Wakefield, 84, Moscow resident for 49 years, died yesterday at Gritman Memorial hospital, following a series of strokes.
She was born Feb 13, 1888, in Novelty, Mo., the daughter of Alfred and Dora Murray. She attended school in Missouri and as a teenager moved with her family west to the new Oklahoma Territory. There she met and married George D. Wakefield on April 20, 1907. He died in October of 1933.
Mrs. Wakefield was a cook for over 35 years in Moscow, at the Varsity Cafe, the Blue Bucket Inn on the University of Idaho campus. And at the Nobby Inn. At age 77, she worked as a relief cook during the week at Wade's Cafe.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, Auxiliary of the V.F.W., Women of the Moose and the Senior Citizens.
Her survivors include two sons, Ernest Wakefield of Moscow, and Bill Wakefield. Sitka, Alaska; and three daughter, Mrs. Jack (Claudine) Summer, Moscow, Mrs. Walter (Edna) Edelblute, Arlington Hits. Ill., and Mrs. Harry (Frances) Wakefield, Coquille, Oreg. One daughter. Mrs Lee (Dora) Jester. Died in January, 1970. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. ida Weber, Spokane, and Mrs. Erie Baldridge, Potlatch; two brothers, Irby Murray, Palouse, and Arthur Murray, Kingfisher, Okla.: 28 grandchildren, and 66 great-grandchildren.
