October 22, 1955 - April 8, 2021

Ava Jenice "Bruton" Castro, 65, of Lubbock, passed away on Thursday evening, April 8, 2021 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born on October 22, 1955 in Kermit, Texas to the late Reverend Waylon Wilbur Bruton and Wanda Louise (Bartlett) Bruton, and out of this union were born two children.

Ava worked as a sales consultant for the Men's Wearhouse for 14 years, before retiring in 2016.

She loved to read, watch movies, shopping for clothes and shoes, taking care of her daughter's fur babies and was very family centered and oriented. Her family mentioned that "Stella" was her best friend and they loved to do things together and were a little mischievous.

Ava attended and loved Trinity Church. In particular, the family noted that she grew up in a church faithful home as her father was a pastor, being ordained as a Baptist and Assembly of God minister.

Surviving Ms. Castro is one daughter, Vanessa Castro of Lubbock and Ms. Castro's future son-in-law, Jeffrey Tumlinson; one son, Christopher Castro of Lubbock and Danny Peralez whom she considered and loved as a son; two sisters, Dennie Rodgers of Ft. Worth, Texas and Toni Horton and her husband Steve, of Glenn Heights, Texas. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and her favorite aunt, Doris Bartlett.

Of special mention, she is survived by her two fur-baby grand-dogs, Ardy and Dottie, who will forever miss her and be looking for her.

No services for Ms. Castro are planned at this time.

The Castro family has entrusted Ava's final care to Combest Family Funeral Homes and Crematory.
