Mrs. Hattie Giddens Burgess, 88, of Ocilla, died Saturday, October 27, at Dorminy Medical Center (www.dorminymedical.org/).
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla with Rev. Wayne McCrimmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Monday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Burgess was born September 3, 1919 in Berrien County, Georgia to the late Jim N. and Lizzie Luke Giddens. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse receiving her training at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and having worked at Tift Regional Medical Center and did private duty nursing. During World War II she worked as a aircraft mechanic and worked at Robins Air Force Base for 18 years. She was former manager of the Ridge Wood Grill in Daytona Beach.
Mrs. Burgess is survived by her daughter: Elizabeth "Libby" Rowe of Irwin County; two grandchildren: Paula Shuman of Irwinville and Karen O'Neal of Irwin County; ten great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; and sister: Jeanette McSwain of Irwin County. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Clyde Giddens and J.R. Giddens and one granddaughter: Amy Harper.
