Joseph Meriam was the son of John Meriam (1641-1723/24) and his wife Mary Cooper (1645-1731/32) of Concord, Middlesex Co., MA. On March 24, 1705/06 Joseph married Dorothy Brooks (1685-1774), daughter of Noah and Dorothy (Potter) Brooks of Concord. The couple had six children, all born in Concord: Dorothy (b. 1706), Mary (b. 1707), Joseph (b. 1709), Samuel (b. 1712), Nathan (b. 1720), and Josiah (b. 1725/26). Joseph Meriam was a locksmith and farmer. His house, built ca. 1705, still stands at Meriam's Corner in Concord, near the intersection of Lexington and Old Bedford Roads. Known as the Meriam House, it is now part of the Minute Man National Historical Park.
