Jeanne's Obituary
In Loving Memory Jeanne Pearl Garrett (Marchinek) Our mom was born on December 26th, 1954 to parents who were bigger than life, John (Pete) and Margaret Marchinek of Kettle Falls. She entered into the eternal rest of Jesus Christ on March 31st, 2020 in Colville, WA. Jeanne grew up with her brother, John, in Kettle Falls, WA. Her father was a railroad inspector who also served in the army during WWII where he built rail lines across the Middle East. Tragedy struck early in her life when her mother passed away in 1955. Her father remarried to her stepmother Ruth and with that, she gained a stepsister, Betty. She and her brother grew up a life full of stories and as much excitement a railroad family could have. At the age of 14, Jeanne met her future Navy-bound husband, Jesse Garrett of Colville. The two lovebirds were married five years later, on June 2nd, 1973. The Navy sent them immediately to Pensacola, Florida where their family grew for the first time with the birth of Greg Garrett. As with the military life, Jeanne and Jesse moved to California where Daniel and Christopher were born. Jeanne and family also lived in Whidbey Island, Long Beach, CA and San Diego, CA. In 1991 Jeanne and Jesse, while stationed in San Diego, adopted Melissa who was one years old at the time. During Jesse's 21 years in the Navy, they have lived in Florida, California, and Washington. When Jesse retired, they settled back in Kettle Falls in the house Jeanne grew up in. Jeanne has spent the next 28 years with tremendous joy being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She also collected an innumerable "adopted" sons and daughters and grandkids. Jeanne loved to teach her grandchildren how to cook and sew. She loved to tell those famous stories of her life and stories of her dad. She loved sewing, baking and crafting. Every relative (natural and "adopted") received a home-made Christmas stocking from her at some point. Every new baby received a blanket. Jeanne inherited her father's toughness as she is a two-time cancer survivor. She also loved genealogy. Jeanne (yes, we lovingly called her Jeanne-ology) had meticulously traced back her heritage to the Mayflower, even as far back as the dark ages of Europe. In doing so, she discovered many more cousins and second, third, fourth cousins from around the country. This, of course, put her Christmas stocking making into high gear. She loved rescuing cats and dogs, big holidays with the family and spending time with friends. She was a loving wife, a self-sacrificing mother, the "greatest grandmother anyone could ask for", and very proud great-grandmother. She was one of a kind and will be immensely missed. Jeanne was preceded in death by her brother John, stepsister Betty, her mother, her stepmother and her father.
She is survived by her husband (Names of living removed per Findagrave rules)
A memorial service will be held later this summer so please follow the family Facebook page for details.
