William died at 2628 Ann Street, Philadelphia, PA. His death certificate states that he died from valve disease of the heart and intestinal hemorrhage. William was an engineer. William was a private in the Civil War. He lived in Macomb, Illinois, before he enlisted at Peoria, Illinois, on December 1, 1863. He served with Co. B 17th and Co. K. 8th Regt. Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was a teamster, one who drives a team of horses, prior to his enlistment. William was discharged in Washington, D.C. on February 26, 1867. William could read and write. He is listed on the 1850 census with his parents in Reading, PA. On the June 5, 1880 census, he lived at Victoria Street, Philadelphia, PA, with his family. He was then listed as a fireman (it was on the railroad). On the June 17, 1900 Census the family lived at 2628 Ann Street, Philadelphia, PA. William's second wife, Rachel, her 17-year-old son from a previous marriage-Freeman De Muncy, a soldier; and his daughter, Ida, 20, a knitter, also were listed. William was 5'3" with a fair complexion, hazel eyes, and black hair. In 1901 he was in bad shape-deafness, catarrh of head and throat, lumbago and bronchitis, and diarrhea.
