David Fernandes, 84, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2020 at home with his family by his side in Warners, NY.
David was born June 12, 1936 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He grew up working in his father's grocery store, Fernandes Market. Growing up, David was a member of the Panthers Social Club and loved to play soccer which he continued in college at the New Bedford Institute of Technology.
He met his beloved Jean Marie LaBossierre, and they married November 22, 1962. They moved to Wappingers Falls, NY where David worked for IBM as an auditor.
David loved to do "projects" around the house, and was always working on something, whether it was shingling the family home in the Cape Cod style, one shingle at a time (that took over a year!), building an additional room on to the house or wallpapering a room. His daughters joined him on some of these projects, as David felt girls could do whatever they set their minds to.
His family, Jean and their daughters, were the center of his world. He loved to watch his girls play soccer and was known to be a little vocal when the refs didn't call the game the "right" way. He loved to plan family vacations that were taken every summer. As his girls grew and were married, he loved to go and visit in the summers and spend time helping with projects around their homes.
When David retired, he and Jean moved to North Carolina for a couple years, before settling in Port Charlotte, Florida for 22 years. While retired, he and Jean loved to travel and found a love for cruising. He loved to read books and plan
David was thrilled when he became a grandfather, and loved to hear about all of his grandchildrens' accomplishments. David's smile would light up a room and he was always quick with a joke to make you smile or a huge hug when you were down. He loved to watch sports, especially premier league soccer and to root for the New York Yankees- a bit controversial for the Massachusetts born guy!
David was predeceased by his parents Jacintho and Odeila Fernandes, brother Jesse Fernandes and sister Odelia Burlee.
He is survived by his wife Jean Marie (Labossiere), daughters Susan (John Murray) , Lynne (Ethan Minkel) and Beth (Gordon Baker) and grandchildren Lauren Minkel, Alyssa Minkel, Andrew Murray, Shayla Murray, Rebecca Baker, and Jessica Baker.
Calling hours will be May 1, from 4-6PM with a service to follow at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, North Syracuse, NY.
