Cosmo joined the United States Army in 1917 during World War 1 and served as a PVT.He had his basic training at Camp Upton, Yaphank, Long Island. He was sent to San Antonio at Leon Springs and was shipped to France with the 26th Field Artillery, 5th Division.He saw action in the historic Battle of Argonne Forest and Luxemberg,it was his little shaving kit that saved him in battle which he gave to his son Dominick who took it with him in the battles of the South Pacific during World War 11.
