Comfort Gilman was born in 1785, reportedly in New Hampshire. Her parents have not been identified. She was married, as his second wife, circa 1810 to David Chandler. They lived in Walden, Caledonia County, Vermont until about 1813. Afterward they moved to Niagara County, New York and by 1816 were living in Leicester, Genesee County, New York. By 1825 they had moved to Pendleton, Niagara County, New York. David died in 1828, probably in Niagara County. Comfort was listed on the 1830 census as living in Pendleton. She was married on 20 December 1840 in Royalton, Niagara County to Felix Holdridge. After their marriage she moved to Raisen township, Lenawee County, Michigan along with several of her children. Felix worked there as a farmer and Comfort kept house. After the death of her son David Chandler's wife in 1849, Comfort cared for her granddaughter Caroline Chandler. Felix died in 1855 and in his will he left Comfort the use of the land, household furnishings while she lived, and a team of oxen. It seems probable that Felix's children from his first marriage did not like Comfort, she is not mentioned in the biographies of Felix in the local country histories. Comfort lived with her daughter Miranda (Chandler) Iveson afterward. She died in April 1866.
