"John J. Salisbury, one of the oldest residents of the county, died at 7 p.m. last Friday, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Marlon E. Gibbs, in Butler, aged 93 years, 8 months and 25 days. He had been in falling health due to extreme old age for a number of years. Mr. Salisbury was born In Troy [Springfield], Pa., Sept. 13, 1834, and came to Butler 56 years ago, purchasing and settling on the farm and in the house in which he passed away. He drove across country with an ox-team, making the journey by slow stages. His only son, Harry, was then one year old. He and the sister mentioned above are the only children. Mrs. Salisbury died 34 years ago, since which time the father had lived with his daughter The deceased is also survived by a number of grandchildren, and one brother, at Phelps, N Y. The funeral was held from the house at 3 .p. m., Sunday, the Rev. R. D. Stanley officiating. Interment was made beside his wife in Glenside cemetery."
