On February 27, 1862 A W Torrey married Nellie H Sawtelle in Yuba County. Their first born son was Frank E Torrey born in Marysville on November 10, 1862 and sadly died in Marysville on October 21, 1863, buried in the family plot with his grandparents.
Abner Wood Torrey and Helen Sawtelle Torrey had six children, they spent most of their married life in Humbolt County, California.
At the age of 86, after a long illness Helen died, she was survived by two sons. Walter and Abner and two daughters, Flora and Amy, son Frank and daughter Belle preceded her in death. Abner and Helen it seems raised their daughter Belle's children, Clyde Madsen born in 1889 and Florence Madsen born 1891 both infants when belle died in Red Bluff in November of 1891, as they are listed in the 1900 and 1910 Eureka, Humbolt County census with the Torrey family.
