Ray T. Silver Sr.
A prominent retired farmer and former Green County Board at Supervisor, Ray T. Silver Sr., 77, died at 1:30 pm. Sunday, Dec. 31. 1967, of an acute heart attack in his home in Monticello. Mr. Silver, widely-known, was active in the affairs of the Wisconsin Swiss and Limburger Cheese Producers Association, having served as a director and now as a vice president. He was especially active in the Mt. Pleasant Mutual Insurance Co. He served the insurance association first as a director, later secretary, and currently was president. He was a former member of the Silver School board, former chairman of Mt. Pleasant Township, and served many years on the County Board of Supervisors.
He was a son of pioneer settlers, Truman O. and Phoebe Helen Strunk Silver. He was born on the Silver Homestead in Mt. Pleasant. Township Nov. 4, 1890. His father too had served on the County Board. Ray T. attended the Silver rural school and also the
Monroe Business Institute. He was married Feb. 4, 1920 at Believille to Mabel Ann Carroll. who died April 4, 1948. On June 5, 1949 he was married in Monticello to Mrs, Anna Stauffacher of Monticello. Mr. Silver had been a resident of Monticello since 1957. He made daily trips to the farms in Mt. Pleasant where he him self had farmed before moving to the village.
Mr. Silver is survived by his widow, Anna; three sons, Ray T. Jr., William and Artemus, all of rural Monticello; a daughter, Mrs James Curran, Browntown; a brother, Emory C. Silver,
Monticello; a sister, Mrs. Mary Bly, formerly of Evansville, now in a Stoughton nursing home,and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Mabel Webster, in March of 1967; his father, Nov.30, 1944, and his mother, Jan. 20, 1945.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, in the Voegeli Funeral Home in Monticello, Rev. J. Allan Mittler of Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello is to officiate. Burial will be in Dayton Catholic Cemetery, with Rev. Raymond P. Dunn of St. Mary of the Lourdes Church of Belleville, conducting the committal service. Friends may call at the funeral home from Tuesday noon until Thursday noon. Pallbearers will be Ray Grady and Walter Haddinger, both of rural Belleville, and C. W. Karlen, Wilbert Strahm, Raymond Talmage, and Jacob Voegeli, Monticello Honorary pallbearers will be C. W. and Frank Loveland both of Monticello; Morris Marty, New Glarus; Jonathon S. Moen, Monticello; Elmon Ott, Blanohardville, and Roycie Ross, rural Albany.
