Thrice happy groom, so late bereft,
Of all thy faithful heart held dear,
The silent tomb no voice has left
To bid thee shed another tear.
Thy couch, yet warm with that dear form
So lately to thy bosom pressed,
Now shields from harm and each rude storm,
Another, till again thou'rt blessed.

Obituary - The death in this city yesterday of Henry Channing Beal at the advanced age of seventy-nine years removed one of the central figures of journalism on this Coast. Mr. Beal reached this coast, via Panama, in 1850 and became one of the firm of Coit & Beal, from which he retired some four years ago. He then entered journalism as a writer on commercial matters, being a member of the staff of the "Mercantile Gazette and Prices Current." At various times he was employed on the different daily papers and was an authority on mercantile matters. About 1865, he was part proprietor of the "Commercial Herald," but again returned to the wider field of daily papers. For a number of years he has been retired from active work. He was deeply interested and closely identified with charities and good work of the Fruit and Flower Mission. He was always available as an escort for the young ladies on their errands of mercy, and by his thoughtfulness eased the sick bed of many sufferers. If a man asked for a paper from an Eastern city he always knew where he could procure one, or if a child wanted a picture paper he was the one to supply it. He was prominent in the work of Calvary Church before the war and afterwards of St. John's Presbyterian Church. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at St. John's Prebyterian Church on California street.
