GALENA PHYSICIAN DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Dr. W. A. Walker Succumbs After Illness of Seven Years Duration.

Dr. W. A. Walker
, veteran physician of Galena who has been an invalid the last eight years died at 6 o'clock Wednesday a.m. at the home 412 East Fourth street.

Dr. Walker was born in Virginia in 1853 (sic: 1833) coming to Galena 37 years ago being a practicing physician until the last seven years during which time he has been confined to his home on account of illness.

During his thirty years practice here Dr. Walker was ministering physician at the birth of approximately 2500 babies born in Galena and vicinity.

Dr. Walker enlisted as a volunteer during the Civil War.

He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. S. Upchurch of Glenoak, Okla., and four sons, David S. and William J. Walker, residing in Galena, James M. Walker, of Joplin; John H. Walker of Tulsa, Oklahoma, also seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Among the grandchildren who are well known in Galena are C. William Walker who resides here and Mrs. Howard Ritter, formerly, Miss Pearl Walker, who resides at Arma, Kansas.

Dr. Walker has been a member of the Galena Methodist Episcopal church eighteen years.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. O. C. Bronston officiating.

WALKER FUNERAL TODAY

Funeral services for Dr. W. A. Walker who died at the home of his son, David Walker, 412 East Fourth street, at 5 o'clock yesterday morning, were held in the Methodist Episcopal church at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. Rev. Oliver C. Bronston officiating. Burial was in the Galena cemetery.

YEARS, SUCCUMBS AFTER
LONG ILLNESS.

Dr. William A. Walker
, 82 years years old, one of Galena's oldest citizens, died at 6:30 o'clock this morning at the home of his son, David Walker, 412 West Fourth street. He had been ill about seven years and death was due to paralysis.

Dr Walker was born in 1883 (sic). He came to Galena about 38 years ago and began the practice of medicine, which he continued until he became ill seven years ago. He was one of Galena's most prominent citizens and was well known.

He is survived by three sons, David Walker, James Walker of Joplin and Will Walker of Galena; one daughter, Mr. (sic) Silas Upchurch of Glenoak, Okla., and two grandchildren, Mrs. Howard Ritter and Will Walker.

No funeral arrangements will be made until word has been received from relatives.
