George W. Jones, communlyn known as Uncle George son of Joseph and Catherine Jones was born at Pleasant Ridge Ohio, May 1846 and died Sunday June 13 at his home near Alton.

He was married to Harriet Williams January 23, 1872. Twelve children were born to this union. Three daughters preceded him in death.

He is survived by his widow, nine children, W. S. Jones of Clland, OH; T. J. Jones of Rockford, Ill; S. E. Jones of Kethehiean, Ala; Birdie Hawley, of Tulsa, OK; A. Jones of Climax Sask, Canada; Enice Gipson of Orlando, Fla; K. Jones of Alton; Zenor Jones of Rockford, Ill; 15 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, also a host of relatives and friends.

He was a faithful member of U. B. church for many years having united in early youth and remanded a faithful Christian to the end. He enlisted as a volunteer on October 17, 1864 in the Civil War with Co. H 9th Reg. IND Inf and honorably discharged from service September 28, 1865. He was widely known and he and his good deeds will live on.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 17 at the Baptist Church by Rev. Wagoner, before a large and attentive audience, after the remains were laid to rest in East Cemetery.

Son of Joseph Perry Jones and Catherine J. Cox Jones.
