PEORIA - Fern Newcomb, 92, of Peoria passed away at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.

She was born on Nov. 13, 1914, in Pontiac, Mo., to Claude E. and Martha E. Taylor Chambers. She married Robert G. Newcomb on July 17, 1932, in Ozark, Mo. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1981, in Peoria.

Her parents, two brothers and five sisters also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughters, Joanna Roberts of Peoria and Mary Ellen (Gareth) Greene of Chillicothe. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ed (Linda) Roberts of Fountain Hills, Ariz., Jeff (Arlene) Roberts of Tremont, Ill., Ellen (John) Bressner of Toulon, Ill., David (Becky) Magner of Lexington, Ky., and Susan (Scott) Faulkner of Dunlap, Ill.; eight great-grandchildren, Jesse, Ryan and Eric Roberts, Jennifer and Megan Faulkner and Brandon, Andrew and Sarah Magner; and several nieces; and one nephew.

Fern worked as a bookkeeper at several area businesses and last as an assistant bookkeeper for six years with Al Weigand Construction, retiring in 1979.

She was active in R.S.V.P., The Friendship House and the Salvation Army and was a member of Mount Hawley Community Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Pastor Dan Spreacker will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.

Memorials may be made to Friendship House Senior Club, St. Augustine Manor, the Salvation Army Senior Club or to her church.
