DICK RITZENTHALER

"Richard (Dick) Ritzenthaler, 35, Lake Delton, died Tuesday night at University Hospitals, Nadison, an apparent suicide.
Mr Ritzenthaler was a former resident of Stevens Point and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. he had been employed at Freeway Lumber Co. and Ishnala Supper Club, in Lake Delton.
The Ritzenthaler family was famed at UW-SP for its contribution to the school's athletic program. Dick was the first in a line of four brothers on the Pointers, basketball team.
He competed for two seasons from 1962-64, the second of which was the first of college competition for his brother Charles.
After leaving school for two years, Dick returned and played with Stevens Point's 1967-68 team.
Brothers Kenneth and Thomas later were members of the Pointer team.
Dick scored 653 points during his career at Stevens Point, under the coaching of the late Hale Quandt and the present UW-SP athletic director, Bob Krueger.
His brother Thomas owns the school record for the most points scored in a career.
Mr. Ritzenthaler was manager of the Poor Haus Bar on Reserve St. N., during his two years away from school. He later was part owner of Big Daddy's tavern for three months, having helped open the tavern on Strongs Avenue in 1967.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Edward (Margaret) Ritzenthaler, Baraboo; one son, Tim, Sauk City; one sister, Mrs. Jerald (Marlene) Natvick, Plover, and five brothers, Dr. David Ritzenthaler, Indianpolis, Ind., Donald, Reedsburg, Charles, Menomonee Falls, Kenneth, 1700 Water St., and Thomas, Brussels, Belgium.
There will no visitation, and funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hanson Funeral Home, Baraboo. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery, Baraboo.
Mr. Ritzenthaler was preceded in death by his father."
