Noah enlisted as a Private in the 49th North Carolina Infantry Regiment, Company C on March 19, 1862 at Rowan County, North Carolina. He was wounded on May 16, 1864 at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia. He was taken prisoner March 25, 1865 and imprisoned at Fort Stedman, Virginia. He took the Oath of Allegiance at Point Lookout, Maryland on June 28, 1865.
