He was born in California and spent most of his childhood in Washington State.
His parents were Thomas Gray and Hildegarde Bower.
He is survived by his brother Tom Gray (Jeri) and sister, Janet Cichy. He is also survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce Gray.
He has three children Tom Gray, Charles James Gray, Jr. (Katie) and Winona Williford (Joe). One child is deceased, Angela Gray.
He has four grandchildren, Christopher Karhan, Charles James Gray III, Samantha Gray, and Alexis Leonard. There are three great grandchildren.
Jim retired from the Navy after 20 years of service. Then he worked in civil service for 15 years at the Naval Air Rework Facility (NARF) in Norfolk. After that he worked at Dave's Pawn Shop.
He is a member of Vietnam Veterans of America, Red Knights Motorcycle Club, Amateur Radio Club, and Princess Ann AARP.
He loved riding his Harley motorcycle and spending time with his friends.
There will be a Memorial Service at Smith and Williams on Princess Ann Road Friday, March 26, at 2:00pm. He will be interred at Horton Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vietnam Vets Chapter 969.
