Franklin "Don" Abbott went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday March 14, 2021. After struggling with Alzheimer's disease for many years, he died peacefully in his sleep.

Don was born in Goree, TX to Arthur and Clara Mae Abbott in their family home on August 28, 1934. At the age of three his family moved to Roy, NM where he spent his childhood years until his junior year of high school. At that time his family moved to Olney Texas where he met and married his loving wife Virginia Miller. After serving in the Army, Don and Virginia moved back to Olney where they had their only child Deborah. They then moved to Electra where they spent over ten years before moving to Longview, TX. There they spent a long 38 years.

Don was a dedicated inspector for the Texas Railroad Commission (Oil and Gas Division) in Kilgore, TX for over twenty years. He and Virginia were faithful members of Greggton United Methodist Church where they served in any capacity that was needed. Don loved working with his hands and he was an accomplished woodworker. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an amazing grandfather.

Don is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; mother, Clara Mae; father, Arthur; his brother, James "Dub" Abbott.

He is survived by his sister, Charlene Orem, his only child, Deborah Gerrity, her husband, Bruce Gerrity; grandson, Shannon Greer and his wife, Roxanne Bennett; grandson, Patrick Greer and wife, Laura Echols; grandson, Geoffrey Greer and partner, Alex Greer; and great-grandson Donovan Greer.
