Adelaide Tower, Rochester Pioneer, Dead in California
Adelaide Tower, widow of James Tower, formerly of Rochester, died Monday at the home of her niece, Carrie Tower Hayden, at San Jose, Calif.
Mrs. Tower was born in Watertown in 1837, the daughter of James Smith. Fifty years ago she came to Rochester and was married to James Tower. Mr. Tower's parents came to Rochester in a packet boat on the Erie canal in 1826 and built the house which is now standing at No. 82 Adams street. Mr. and Mrs. James Tower lived there until Mr. Tower's death fifteen years ago, when Mrs. Tower moved to California to live with her niece.
Mrs. Tower leaves, besides the niece with whom she lived, another niece, Mary Tower McNair, of Los Angeles, and two nephews, Richard Tower, of San Jose, Calif., and Dr. J. Sherburne Read, of Rochester.
