Ruth lived a Christ-like life. She was loving, kind, generous, selfless, hard-working, clever and compassionate. Above all, Ruth revolved her life around her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sadly, Ruth died on April 23, 2018, after enduring two unsuccessful surgeries at IHC for a perforated bowel. Ruth was born in Salt Lake City, on May 10, 1944, the daughter of Don Lassig and Amalia "Molly" Tuck Lassig. She has eight brothers and sisters whom she loved with all her heart.
She graduated from Olympus High School in 1961. On May 13, 1962, while serving a building mission with her family in London, England, Ruth met Klaus, the love of her life and partner in all things. After their third encounter and taking a walk in Epson in the rain, Klaus proposed marriage. Ruth thought he was crazy. After two persistent years of courting, Klaus immigrated to the United States and Mom and Dad were married in the Salt Lake Temple on October 16, 1964. They lived a beautiful life together filled with laughter, hard-work, adventure and an intense love for their three children: RuthAnne (Brian), Heidi (Steve) and Richard (Kristie).
In addition to her lifelong career as dad's main supporter, Mom was accomplished in her own right; her typing skills were unsurpassed. She could edit, proof-read and catch spelling errors better than any college professor. Mom earned a paralegal certificate from Westminster College. She taught herself to speak German like a native. Mom was never afraid to challenge herself or try new things. In 1984, Mom acquired a loan and bought her first IBM computer, a novelty at the time. She ended up mastering WordPerfect which she eventually taught all over the state and published a successful textbook.
Music was our mom's passion. She could sing, play the piano, the organ and direct choirs. One of her proudest moments was in 1965, when, as a member of the Holiday 3rd Ward quartet, the group won the "All Church Quartet Festival." Mom's faith in the LDS gospel was unwavering; she loved and lived the gospel. She relished every church calling.
Ruth, known as "Bana" to her 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, will always be remembered for holding "office hours" in her car and making "raspberry runs" at Bear Lake.
As much as we mourn her passing, we celebrate her beautiful and amazing life.
