Mrs. Arena Threatt Sellers, wife of Mr. "Brynay" (W. H.) Sellers, passed peacefully away Sunday morning, January 30th. She had been confined to her room for several months but it was not thought the end was so near, and her death was a distinct shock that cast a deep pall of gloom over the whole community. Mrs. Sellers was born at White Plains about sixty-four years ago, the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Threatt. She was the sister of the late Dr. Bart Threatt, who was for many years a prominent and popular physician of Ruby. For many years Mrs. Sellers was a successful teacher in the public shools here and elsewhere, and was still affectionately called "Mrs. Renie" by many of her former pupils now grown up. Since her retirement from teaching, Mrs. Sellers had generously devoted a great deal of her time to being a "Good Samaritan", as numbers of those who were ill or afflicted can testify. During the dreadful days of influenza epidemic of 1918, and since, Mrs. Sellers renuered wonderfully efficient, untiring service to those stricken, never having the slightest fear of the disease herself. She had a host of friends and relatives in this state, as well as in Georgia and Florida to whom she had endeared herself by her attractive personality, originality, and witty optimism to which she held even to the very end. No one can take her place in the affectionate regard of her numerous friends. She was a member of the Baptist church since early life. The funeral services were held Monday, January 31st, at Elizabeth Baptist church, conduced by her pastor, the Rev. J. S. Tyson, assisted by Rev. W. S. Scott of the Presbyterian church, followed by interment in the church cemetery. One of the prettiest of the floral offerings was sent by the W.M.U. of the Ruby Baptist church. The pallbearers were boys of the Ruby High School. Mrs. Sellers is survived by her husband, W. H. Sellers, one daughter, Miss Eleanor, principal of the grammar grades of the Angelus-Macedonia consolidated schools; one son, Kenmore, a World War veteran, who served with distinction over seas about twenty-two months; and one brother, P. V. Threatt, all of this place.
