She was the last limb of the tree, all of her sisters and brothers having preceded her in death. Her maiden name Hammett is traceable back through Kentucky and to the old Chevalier blood of Virginia. Just a passing of an old time mother, whose teaching, alas, is growing less . The home was the most important fact of her life and her greatest happiness was with the children around her own fireside. When this could be no longer maintained she withered away like flowers in the autumn. To know her was to love her. No greater tribute can be offered to any one. So we treasure her memory as one who lived a life of usefulness giving more than she received, living for others, not for herself, until the universal summons of death came. She was laid to rest in Midway Cemetery where she held her membership in the Christian Church.
