We celebrate the life of Samuel “Sammy” Kinchen Caines of the Northwest community. He passed away March 12, 2021 at the age of 86.

Sammy was born February 2, 1935 in Chadborn, NC to Samuel K. Caines, Sr. and Florence Collins Caines. He graduated from Acme Delco High School in 1953, and began working at Riegel Paper in Riegelwood, NC. While working at the mill, he also farmed, operated a store in Bolton, and carried the newspaper. In 1973, he started Caines Trucking. After his retirement from Federal Paper in 1990, he began working in the logging industry where he started Coastal Timber. He was very active in the Caines Trucking and Coastal Timber businesses and operations until his passing.
Sammy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Everyone he met received a kind word, smile, and a handshake. He was a devoted Christian and member of Red Hill Pentecostal Church in Brydville, NC. He was the oldest living member of the Waccamaw Lodge #596 AF&AM in Riegelwood with over 60 years of dedicated service and membership. In his free time, he enjoyed flying where he was a licensed private pilot for many years.

He is survived by his wife Arrie Caines and his five children: Tony Caines, Jerry Caines (Mary), Samthya Caines Hartis (Gene), Eddie Caines (Alison), and Holly Pinto. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Emily Caines, Peyton Hartis, Braxton Hartis, Braden Hartis, Andrew Caines, Matthew Caines, John Pinto, and Cadence Pinto, and great grandchildren Lucas and Kyndal Brown. He is survived by one sister, Tootsie Register, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Sharon Bullard, Bonita Powell, and Tammy Grice.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Faye Bullard Caines, who passed away April 13, 2009. His parents, Samuel K. Caines, Sr. and Florence Collins Caines, along with three brothers and six sisters.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held March 17, 2021 at Red Hill Pentecostal Church on Brydville-Freeman Road. A visitation will begin at 11am followed by a funeral service at 12pm. After the service, the burial will be in the Caines Family Cemetery. The service will be led by Reverend Calvin Malpass and his pallbearers will be members of Waccamaw Lodge #596.
