Lt. Kyle Anthony Campbell

It is with our deepest sadness that we share the passing of First Lieutenant Kyle Anthony Campbell, United States Air Force, on March 12, 2021, after a brief battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Kyle was medically evacuated from his first Air Force deployment in the Middle East, and in three short weeks, we lost this beautiful, kind and emerging leader.

Kyle was born January 5, 1996, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. At the age of 2, his mother moved back to the US to raise him in Bremerton. He graduated from Olympic High School in 2014 where he excelled in academics, athletics, and serving the community. Kyle was a team captain of the Track & Field team, he placed at the State championships multiple times for both shot put and discus. He also played Basketball and was a member of the swim team.

In the community, Kyle was a mentor for disadvantaged youth and a volunteer for the Bremerton Salvation Army. A camp counselor once wrote in his summary of observations about Kyle "Kyle has the uncanny ability to lead from behind". For Kyle, his motto in life was "Failure is not an Option" and he showed that in everything he did.

During his senior year in High School Kyle received a congressional nomination, and subsequent acceptance, to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He graduated from there in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management. He served as a Logistics Officer, distinguishing himself as a leader beyond his years. Kyle was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas and had recently deployed as Installation Deployment Officer, 378th Air Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron as part of Operation SPARTAN SHIELD. As a young officer, Kyle distinguished himself for his amazing work ethic, problem-solving ability and compassion for his peers and airmen under his command. Kyle was posthumously awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his numerous accomplishments.

Kyle will be remembered as a compassionate young man, who loved food, travel, and time with family. Kyle was loved by many, but none more than his mama, Wendie Scott Pond. Kyle and Wendie were two peas in a pod, with a deep friendship and love for one another. Wendie's "Sonshine" will be a bright light in her universe forever. She is surrounded by many who will love and support her as she finds a path to honor Kyle's legacy and keep his spirit alive in service to the community through the Kyle Anthony Campbell Foundation that she will form to honor him.

Kyle has a large extended family who love him dearly and were so proud of him and his accomplishments in the world. Kyle is survived by his Grandmother, Joyce Scott, his father, Carlton Campbell, and half-sisters Sashae Campbell and Renee Campbell, his Aunts and Uncles: Jeff Scott, Dona Scott Jenniges, Leslie Scott Kelley and Sean Kelley; Cousins: Connor Kelley, Natalie Kelley, Makaila Scott, Martina Scott and many loving friends and family around the world.

A memorial is set for April 17th at Nellis AFB, and a celebration of life in Bremerton will be hosted by his family as soon as Covid protocol allows for large groups to gather.
