LCDR Lynnelle Agnew, 90, passed away in Oxford, Florida on 29 January 2021.
Lynne worked for several years in civilian nursing before serving in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps at several Naval Hospitals in the U.S., on Guam and in Danang, Vietnam - the latter she considered the most important and valued assignment of her career.'
After 21 years in the Navy, Lynne retired but continued to serve others. No matter where she lived, she volunteered. She was an Educational Coordinator for a crisis center in one city, an intake interviewer at an Ecumenical Center in another and a group counselor of combat veterans at a Veterans' Center in still a third. She helped to raise funds for a shelter for homeless veterans. She was an active church member, serving as an Elder, singing in the choir, assisting in the food pantries and serving on various committees.
Lynne loved speed, challenges and adventure. So, she raced - go carts, cars, golf carts and sailboats, winning many of the races. She eventually discovered that being the skipper of a 30 ft. sailboat and becoming the first female Commodore of a sailing club and a yacht club in southern California challenging enough.
Later on, travel on land was in order. Lynne and her lifelong friend and partner, L.G. Emond, RV'ed with friends and RV clubs, and stayed at least overnight in all 49 states, 10 Canadian provinces, and one Canadian territory, driving twice to their favorite areas of Alaska and Newfoundland.
Lynne was predeceased by her parents, W.L and Virgene Agnew and her sisters Marielle and Claire. Survivors include L.G. Emond, nieces Cindy, Diane, Lynnette and Adrienne, nephews Bill and Bob and several great-nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
