Orton Felgar Hixson was the son of William B. Hixson and Leona Felgar. He is with his parents in the US census records for 1910-1930.

Before 1933, he married Clarice M. Yale. They had three children: Harold Yale "Harry" Hixson (1933-); Owen Hixson (1937-1942); and Thomas Owen Hixson (1943-).

After the death of Clarice in 1964, he marred Stella Sophie Grys.
