William Bailey fought as a confederate soldier with his two brothers. They were soldiers in Dooly Guards Company G infantry regiment Georgia. He was killed at Battle of Chancellorville, Va.William, born about 1825, studied art Randolph-Macon College. He married Mary B. Bailey near Clarksville, Virginia on 16 June 1856.

He enlisted at Monterey, Virginia as a Private in Company "H", 44th Virginia Infantry on 1 August 1861. He was promoted Senior 2nd Lieutenant on 1 May 1862, when the Regiment was re-organized "for the War", and thereafter served as Acting Adjutant.

William was killed in action at the Battle of Chancellorsville, and has no known gravesite.
