Stan Fisher

Stanley Ray "Stan" Fisher, 53, of rural Lomax, Ill., died unexpectedly at 6:21 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Great River Medical Center Emergency Department in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 11, 1952, in Peoria, Ill., he was the son of Jack and Marion Bunch Fisher. On Feb. 7, 1979, he married Sally Jacob.

Mr. Fisher was a conductor for the Burlington Northern–Santa Fe Railroad for 33 years, and was conductor and training coordinator since 2001.

He served on the Southern School Board for eight years, including four years as president. He was a member of the United Transportation Union, Hend–Co Hills Golf Club in Biggsville, Ill., and Stronghurst Christian Church. He had coached girls softball in the Stronghurst Summer League for several years and had been assistant coach for the boys baseball Summer Pony League team. He was an IHSA certified umpire and an avid golfer.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Samantha Cooper of Monmouth, Ill., and Jacqueline Fisher of LaHarpe, Ill.; his mother of Chillicothe, Ill.; one sister, Sandra Gehring of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stronghurst Christian Church.

The funeral for Mr. Fisher will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Stronghurst Christian Church, with Armand Harpin officiating. Burial will be in the Stronghurst Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab Center in Stronghurst.
