Danny Cagle
Danny Cagle, age 73, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 8th, 2021, after fighting Parkinson's for 30 years. He was at home surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.
Danny was born to Jack Andrew and Annie Mae (Thompson) Cagle on March 18, 1947 in Pryor, OK. As a child, he moved back and forth between Oklahoma and Idaho and was always found outdoors enjoying creation. This made him a teller of childhood memories, fishing stories, and tall tales.
Danny met the love of his life, Bonnie Butler in 5th grade. They were married September 5, 1969 and raised the Four Jolly J's: Jason, Justin, Jared & Joy. They lived in Greenleaf, ID for 38 years and the door was always open to many people who became family. Danny has been a member of Greenleaf Friends Church for over 50 years and served as an elder, Sunday school teacher, youth leader, mentor, grounds keeper, and more.
Danny graduated from Wilder High School as valedictorian in 1966 and the College of Idaho in 1970 where he graduated Cum laude. He played on the C of I football team for 3 seasons. After college he taught math, health, and PE at Wilder High School from 1970-1996 when Parkinson's forced him to retire. He coached 151 teams, totaling 1516 wins in football, basketball, and baseball. The Wilder High School baseball field was named "Cagle Field" the year he retired. At his retirement, he was awarded an Honorary Life Pass from the IHSAA and enjoyed many more games from the sidelines. He has been a father figure to many over the years and a spiritual mentor. After retirement he wrote 3 volumes on The Musings of an Old Coach filled with stories and pictures of his life, family and many students he considered his kids. In 2017 the College of Idaho recognized Danny as a hometown hero.
Danny was proud of his Cherokee heritage, his family, and the teams he coached, but above all else he was a follower of Jesus Christ. He trusted in the death and resurrection of Jesus for the forgiveness of his sin. The grace of God allowed Danny to live a full life with integrity and forgiveness, teaching others to love one another like Christ. His life motto was "My goal is to be like Jesus Christ, the greatest teacher who ever lived."
Danny's life verse was Acts 16:31 "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household."
Danny was preceded in death by his father Jack Cagle, brother Jackie Cagle, and double cousin Mitch Cagle.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Cagle, Children and Grandchildren Jason (Beth) Cagle (Jaimee and Jayden), Justin (Cathy) Cagle (Sydney, Kailey, and Tanner), Jared (Melissa) Cagle (Alexandria and Evangeline), Joy (Bobby) Truax (Jasmine, Christopher, Daniel and Lucy-Anne), Mother Annie Cagle, Brother Jerry (Kathy) Trout, Sister Tamara-Tammi Tibbett and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he dearly loved.
The family would like to thank Horizon Home Health & Hospice, Trinity Home Care & Resource, Havenwood Home Care, his caregiver Sally, Dr. Bressler, and Dr. Asher for their loving help and support over the years.
A viewing will be held Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Dakan Funeral Chapel from 4:00-6:00 pm.
A processional will start Monday, March 15, 2021 beginning at Greenleaf Friends Church at 12:00 pm and head to the Wilder Cemetery for a graveside service.
