STAUNTON — Bonnie Margaret Slaven, 85, of Staunton died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at her home. She was born July 3, 1922, at Hightown, Virginia; a daughter of the late Roy Bernard and Mabel Clara (Wimer) Slaven.
Miss Slaven was a member of Pisgah Presbyterian Church. She retired from Mary Baldwin College in 1987. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Virginia Coggin and Mildred Lee Simmons, and a nephew, Rodney Allen Rexrode. She is survived by four sisters, Nellie Slaven of Monterey, Violet Botkin of Churchville, Isabel Lawhorn of Staunton and Frances Findley of Texas; a special nephew, Gale Simmons; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, in Monterey Cemetery by the Revs. Richard S. Gibson and C. William Cox.
Active pallbearers will be Mike Boesch, Holmes, Jim and Ben Stephenson, Nicky Pugh and Jacob Hevener. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22903 or to Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 2566, Staunton, VA 24402. Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell is handling arrangements.
