Martin Van Buren Hoel was the son of George W. and Catherine Hopper Hoel. He married Sarah Ellen Richwine about 1861. Their children were Elmer, Marcella, William, Samuel and Thomas. He married Mrs. Sophronia Tucker Jan. 24. 1887. He married Mrs. Mary Catherine Miller Ricks Aug. 22, 1906.
