CARENCRO - Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 11, 2021 at an 11:00 a.m. Liturgy of the Word in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Leray G. Menard, age 90, who passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at his residence in Carencro.

Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Bill Melancon, pastor of St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula, will officiate at the services.

Mr. Menard was a native of Cankton and resident of Carencro. He was employed as a shop foreman with Melancon Equipment for sixty-four years and with Melancon I-49 Storage having retired at 87 years old. A veteran of the military, Mr. Menard proudly served his country in the United States Army. Leray was a longtime member of the CFMA and the Cajun Culture Association.

Survivors include one son, Daniel Joseph Menard and his wife, Debbie, of St. Martinville; two daughters, Dora Menard Rogers and her husband, Roy Rogers, and Linda Marie Miller all of Carencro; seven grandchildren, Dayle Menard (Christin), Dayna Menard (Riggs), Bobby Miller (Hanna), Robby Miller (Monica), Adam Miller (Danielle), Amy Lynn Miller (John), Bryant Rogers, and Laurie Rogers; eighteen great grandchildren, Dylan Menard, Desiree Menard, Lane Gaspard, Adilynn Sonnier, Emilie Sonnier, Gabriel Miller, Aaron Jordan Miller, Emma Hebert, Julie Hebert, Orran Hebert, Lexi Castille, Destiny Fontenot, Jaguer Romero, Mia Potier, Brynn Cormier, Allie Cormier, Drew Lormand and one on the way, Ace Miller; four great-great grandchildren, Lynleigh, Kohen, Kash, and Khi; and two brothers, Clayton Menard and his wife, Dorothy, of Sunset, and James Menard of Cankton.

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Shirley "Tootsie" Jane Menard; his parents, Ursin Menard and the former Dora Venable; two brothers, Nathan Menard and Leroy Menard; four sisters, Genevieve Menard, Vergie Martin, Verlace Menard, and Rosanell Menard; one step grandchild, Traci Lejeune; and his companion, Elizabeth "Liz" Broussard.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Menard, Bobby Miller, Robby Miller, Adam Miller, David Menard, and Wilton Menard. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Rogers, Dayle Menard, Dayna Menard, Bryant Rogers, Dylan Menard, Desiree Menard, Keith Menard, Veronica Ryder, and Brian Ryder.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Acadian Hospice and his loving nurse, Kristina Moorman for her excellent care and compassion.
