Ellis Wayne Burdick, 81, Clayton, Mo., died July 7 after a long illness.
Son of the late J.T. and Maude Taylor Burdick, RD Union Dale, and a 1923 graduate of Carbondale High School, he attended Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, before entering a business career with the F.W. Woolworth chain in Atlantic City, N.J. He later became affiliated with the Newberry chain, managing stores in several major markets and becoming general merchandise manager of the St. Louis Mid-Western area prior to his retirement in 1970.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; two daughters, Mrs. Judy Bloyd and Mrs. H.Smith McGehee, both of St. Louis; four grandchildren; a brother, Floyd, Apollo Beach, Fla., and several cousins.
A collector of hunting guns, Burdick was an avid sportsman and frequently fished and hunted on lands surrounding the Burdick homestead adjoining the Elk Mountain ski area. He maintained homes in Clayton and Apollo Beach.
Interment, Clifford Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
