Another Old Settler Gone
Mr. William Crotty, one of the oldest and most successful farmers of Jackson county, died at his residence in Garryowen yesterday morning. Mr. Crotty was born in the county Cork, Ireland in 1810, and when quite a young man came to America. Nearly forty years ago he settled at Garryowen where he has resided ever since, always recognized by his friends and neighbors as a man of sterling worth. Being honorable and just in all dealings with his fellow men, Mr. Crotty made many fast friends, both in Dubuque and Jackson counties, who will be grieved to learn of his death and extend their sympathy to his bereaved relatives. Mr. Crotty leaves an aged mother, a wife and eight children to mourn the death of a dutiful son, a loving husband and kind father. His funeral will take place tomorrow, Wednesday.∼William's will is dated February 7, 1879. The date of 1878 is incorrect.
