Wanda Hays Moore
January 8, 1927 – March 7, 2021

Wanda Hays Moore went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 7, 2021 in Cleveland, Mississippi, after a long illness.

Wanda was born to the late Luther and Hervie Ray Hays on January 8, 1927, on the Gary McWilliams Farm at Farrell, MS.

She came to know the Lord as her personal Savior in 1948 at Clarksdale Baptist Church.

Wanda was blessed with a loving family. She married Floyd Elton Moore on November 2, 1945 at Clarksdale Baptist Church. They had met when she was 14 and married her when he returned from the service after a letter writing courtship for 4 years while Floyd left to serve his country in the Army as First Sergeant in Egypt during World War II.

Floyd and Wanda moved their letter from Clarksdale Baptist with the opening of Oakhurst Baptist Church. They and their children were charter members and spent the remaining years, as health permitted, serving on numerous committees in the church they loved.

Wanda and Floyd reared their three children in Clarksdale, MS. They both worked for Wigley & Culp for years before opening Moore Paper & Janitorial Supply in 1980. After 13 years they sold the business to their daughter and son-in-law Donna and Fred Surholt. They were the happiest the 4 years after retirement when they spent the winters in the Texas Valley of Mission, Texas, and traveling the United States in their motor home.

Wanda moved into Indywood Personal Care in Cleveland in 2016. She made many new friends who became very dear to her.

Wanda is survived by three loving children. Daughter, Donna Moore Surholt (Fred) of Rena Lara, MS; son, Terry Alan Moore of Horn Lake, MS; and daughter Nancy Moore Robinson (David) of Hendersonville, TN. She leaves behind seven grandchildren: Shannon Surholt (Mandy) of Marshall, TX; Jennifer S. Miller (Danny) of Starkville, MS; Alan Moore (Grace) of Madison, MS; Allison M. Popdan (Brent) of Atlanta, GA; Claire R. Lack (Chadwick) of Willmington, N.C.; Grant Robinson (Sarah) of Hendersonville, TN; and Reed Robinson of Hendersonville, TN. She also leaves behind 9 great grandchildren Anna Katherine Surholt Martin, Ben Surholt, Walt Surholt, Hays Miller, Will Miller, Matt Miller, Ann Wylie Moore, Caroline Moore, and Ki Popdan.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Floyd in 2003 and her parents, brother and two sisters.

A private family graveside service will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021. The family requests that all memorials be made to Oakhurst Baptist Church or to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, Mississippi is handling the arrangements.
