SPENCERVILLE — Raymond M. Briggs, 94 of Spencerville, passed away in his home on March 2, 2021. He was born on October 18, 1926, near Ohio City, to Leo Roscoe Briggs and Anna Elizabeth Seibert Briggs.

Ray was a 1944 graduate of Spencerville High School. On May 28, 1955, he married Helen Joyce Thompson Briggs, the love of his life. She preceded him in death on February 4, 2021.

He was a farmer from youth, as well as a mechanic by trade. Early in his career, he worked at the Chevy garage in Spencerville and the Hume Supply Company. He then worked in the Industrial Garage at the Lima Ford Engine Plant from the late 1950s until his retirement in 1991. Ray was a lifelong member of the Mt. Union United Brethren Church.

Ray's interests were antique cars, farming, and gardening. He could repair almost any vehicle or piece of equipment. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be
missed every day, and leaves behind great memories for all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters: Charles, Richard, Infant (boy), Betty (Allemeier), and Anna Briggs.

Survivors include one son and two daughters: David Alan Briggs (Conrad Portillo) of Trabuco Canyon, CA, Paula J. Briggs of Lima, Ohio, and Rae Adele (Darryl) Hinkle of Spencerville, Ohio.

Also, four grandchildren: Zacharias (Michelle Slaven) Bailey of Spencerville, Ohio, Micah Bailey of Springfield, Ohio, Michele Bailey of Vermilion, Ohio, and Jennifer (Don) Lefik of Spencerville, Ohio. Eight great-grandchildren: DJ Slaven, Wesley Slaven, Raelynn Bailey, Aleighna Bailey, Daniel Lefik, Gabriel Lefik, Michael Lefik, and Samuel Lefik, all of Spencerville, Ohio.

Visitation is at 12:30 pm, and service begins at 2:30 pm on March 13, 2021, at Thomas E. Bayliff funeral home in Spencerville, Ohio.

Burial will follow at the Mt. Union United Brethren Cemetery, corner of Briggs and Deep Cut Roads.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

Family and friends are welcome, but masks will be required.
