Johnson. Later she lived in Colorado and Oregon before moving to Lebanon, KS, in 1984. She went back to school, traveling from Lebanon to Colby, and completed her nursing degrees, first LPN and then RN.
Joan loved life and lived it to the fullest. She, along with Tom, raised goats and chickens. She taught herself how to make purses out of cowboy boots and mastered many other handicrafts.
She is survived by her partner, Tom Swartz, of Lebanon, KS; daughter, Amber Meyer (Stan) of North Platte, NE; son, Dereck Tefft (Ilia) of Dodge City, KS; sister, Fay Frey (Ralph) of Vassar, KS; brothers, Jay Tefft (Michelle) of Springfield, OR, and Adrian Lundgreen of Evergreen, CO; three grandchildren, Aaron Meyer of Honolulu, HI, Stephanie Heil (Michael) of North Platte, NE, and Karman Tefft of Lebanon, KS; two great grandchildren, McKenzie and Jasper Heil of North Platte, NE; and beloved nieces, Donna Frey (Joe Lucero), Derina Hoover (Michelle), Cindy Weaver (Doug); and nephews, Ron Frey (Denise), and Matthew Frey.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Florence (Tefft) Lundgreen, father, Elton Tefft, step-father, John Johnson, and brother, Dale Tefft.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center, KS. There will not be any public visitation, the family has chosen cremation. Memorials may be given to Smith County Hospice and/or Help Pets of Smith County in care of the funeral chapel.
