Alice May, 92, passed away July 12, 2016, at Washington Odd Fellows Home. Viewing will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 The Dalles Military Road. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Amazing Grace Church of Nazarene, 717 E. Alder Street. Paul Hartwig will officiate, with a concluding graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery, 2120 S. Second Street, all in Walla Walla.
Alice was born to Phinehas Rimbey and Vera Hand in Nampa, Idaho on January 17, 1924. She graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1942 and then attended the Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa. Alice went on to marry Jonah Wassenmiller, Harry Patzkowski, Elmer Leeper, and her late husband Roy Swafford. Each is deceased. Alice worked for J.C. Penney Corp. in the office and in purchasing. She also worked at the Teamsters Union office for many years until she retired in 1984. Alice enjoyed and was well skilled in hand-work, including crocheting and embroidering. She was a member of the Amazing Grace Church of Nazarene, a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, where she served as president twice and as a Secretary of Treasure.
Alice is survived by one daughter, Susan Karlson; a stepdaughter, Sonya Watts; two sons, James Patzkowski and Ernie Patzkowski; a stepson, Boyd Patzkowski; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by all four husbands; four brothers, Orval, Harold, Morris, and Albert Rimbey and two sister-in-laws, Cloella and Myrtle Rimbey.
