Son of John Mott and Lucy Nichols, husband of Ann Hewlett, the daughter of Stephen Hewlett and Hannah Langdon, whom he married at the Reform Dutch Church, Jamaica, New York, and father of Lucy Ann (married William Erastus Foote), John Wans, William Edgar, Charles Augustus, Frances E. (married Samuel Strickland), Sarah Adelia F. (married Alfred C. Hewlett), Agnes (married Edgar H. VandeWater), Smith, Sidney, Ida and James Mott.

In 1850, William Mott, aged 41, a farmer, was living in Hempstead, Queens, New York, with his wife, Ann Mott, aged 37, and children, William G. Mott, aged 14, Charles A. Mott, aged 12, Frances E. Mott, aged 10, Sarah A.F. Mott, aged 6, Agnes Mott, aged 4, John W. Mott, aged 9 months, his mother-in-law, Hannah Hewlett, aged 60, and Cornelius Hewlett, aged 40, a laborer, and Peter Brady, aged 21.

In 1870, William Mott, aged 67, a farmer, was living in Hempstead, New York, post office Hempstead, with his wife, Ann Mott, aged 56, and children, John Mott, aged 20, Sidney Mott, aged 18, Agnes Vandewater, aged 22, grandsons, Charles Vandewater, aged 4, and Freddie Vandewater, aged 3, and granddaughter, Ida Mott, aged 13.

In 1900, William Mott, aged 92, widowed, a capitalist, born November 1807 in New York, was living at 9 Mott Avenue, Queens, New York, in the home of his nephew, George Richardsen, aged 45, a doctor, and his wife, Lasilda Richardsen, aged 35, and servant, Delia O'Bryan, aged 22.

Obituary - Far Rockaway, L.I., November 28 - William Mott, the oldest resident of Far Rockaway, died at the home of his grandson, Frederick Vandewater, in Horton Place, Bayswater, at 4:25 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Mott was 96 years old, on November 8, and was born and had lived all his life in Far Rockaway, and at one time owned nearly all the land which now comprises this village. He was apparently in good health until about two weeks ago, and took to his bed. On Wednesday afternoon he became unconscious and died twenty-four hours later, from old age. He came from a family which was noted for its longevity. One of his brothers, Richard, died about three years ago, aged 91, and another brother, Benjamin B. Mott, who is 80 years old, survives him. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
