Gilbert Wray Baccus, Sr., aged 81, passed from his home at 153 Baccus Lane, Hertford, NC, on Monday morning, September 26, 2016. He was a native of Perquimans County, NC, born on August 2, 1935 to parents, Johnnie Cephas Baccus and Maggie Winslow Baccus who were waiting for him in heaven.

Gilbert was a contractor, hog farmer and commercial fisherman and part owner of Baccus Seafood and Tri-B Construction. He was a faithful member of Woodville Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as a deacon, superintendent and song leader for many years. He was known to be able to outwork most men many years younger than him.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois Turner Baccus who diligently cared for him during his long illness. He is also survived by his sons, Gilbert R. Baccus, Jr. and wife, Sybil and Donald Wayne Baccus and wife, Terri; three grandsons, Jason Baccus and wife, Courtney, Jeremy Baccus and wife, Mia, Chase Baccus and wife, Jesse; two granddaughters, Danielle Baccus and Vaughney Waterfield and Drew Baccus and Greg Terranova, Jr. all of Hertford, NC; two great granddaughters, Morgan and Macy Baccus; and a brother, Aubrey Baccus and wife, Hope of Hertford, NC; two sisters, Pauline White and husband, Dempsey of Vienna, VA and Phyllis Mansfield and husband, Frank of Elizabeth City, NC. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Odell Baccus, Lindsay Baccus, Adrian Baccus and Marvin Baccus and three sisters, Leona Meads, Lessie Baccus and Ruby Baccus.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Fountain of Life Church. Burial will be in the Baccus Family Cemetery.
