Martha was the daughter of Hilbart and Matilda Lowry; wife of Charley Sanders (Cottonwood Cemetery, Boone County, Arkansas); and mother of Mary, Ethel, Hilbert, Edith, Eric, Lillian, Virgie, Joseph, Joseph's infant twin sister, and Ruth.

Martha, Charlie and their children lived in Boone County, Arkansas. He was a farmer and died in February 1908. Martha stayed in Boone County until she and the children moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma in 1917 to be near her father.
