He was born on December 9, 1873 in Las Cruces, Doña Ana County, New Mexico, a son of Charles L. Blake and Guadalupe (Patton) Blake.

John Clark Blake married Ada Belle Holifield on May 9, 1931 in Moab, Grand County, Utah.

He was engaged in cattle ranching, operating a general store, farming and mining.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Elks Lodge 1053, Montruse, Colorado.

Surviving are his wife, a son Phillip Blake of Gardena, California; two daughters Mrs. Mamie Grijalva of California; and Mrs. Wallace Orr of Grand Junction, Colorado; a stepdaughter Mrs. P.T. Swain of Bedrock Colorado; a stepson L.T. Ayers of Uravan, Colorado; a brother Roland Blake of Washington D.C.; a sister Mrs. Edith Miller of San Bernardino, California; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

His funeral will be Friday, December 7, 1956 with burial to follow in Grand View Cemetery, Montrose, Montrose County, Colorado.
