Norman Keith Lee, age 87 of Ridgeville, passed Monday night, February 22, 2021, from complications of a stroke he suffered in 2016. He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, Barbara Jean (Robison) Lee; and his two sons, Michael D. Lee of Grand Rapids, Michigan (wife Sandra) and Bruce K. Lee of Bluffton, Arkansas.
He is also survived by three grandchildren: Jeffrey A. Lee (wife Jerrica) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; Sarah R. Lee (Colton Colby) of Dierks, Arkansas; and Gabrielle M. Lee of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren: Kody Lee, Kolt Lee and Kord Lee, all of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and Adaline Colby of Dierks, Arkansas. Of all of Norman’s accomplishments, his greatest pride was his family.
Norman was born February 3, 1934 to Harvey and Adeline (Robison) Lee in Frankfort, Indiana. He had one brother, Philip K. Lee, who passed in 2002.
Norman graduated from Rossville High School, Rossville, Indiana, in 1952. He earned a B.A. from Hanover College, a M.A. from Vanderbilt University, and his Ph.D from Purdue University. He spent a total of 36 years teaching mathematics at Ball State University, retiring in 1998.
Norman, his wife Barbara and children Mike and Bruce moved to Ridgeville in 1969 after living a number of places following Norman and Barbara’s marriage on June 11, 1956, at the Hanover College Chapel.
He enjoyed his family, his teaching career and attending Ball State University athletic events, especially men’s basketball games. He was also a more than 50-year member of the Winchester Presbyterian Church, Winchester, Indiana, where he served as trustee, deacon, and elder at various times. When Norman wasn’t teaching, he passed the time on the farm in Ridgeville, tending gardens, orchards and farm fields. He had a great love of reading, traveling, and chocolate.
After Norman’s retirement from Ball State in 1998, he and Barbara traveled to several foreign destinations in Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. They also traveled to every state in the U.S.A.
At this time, services are pending due to weather and COVID restrictions. The family will announce memorial service plans this spring. Norman’s ashes will be interred at Geetingsville Cemetery, Geetingsville, Indiana, where his parents and many relatives are also buried.
The family wishes to express thanks to Megan, Kelly, and Leslie from State of the Heart Hospice for their compassionate care during the last few months. Also, special thanks go to Connie Kennedy and Kathy Cox for their help in the care of Norman.
