Jack Turner of Van Alstyne, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the age of 86. He was born on September 2, 1934 in Westminster, Texas to Clyde and Alma Turner. He graduated from Westminster High School in 1952. Upon graduating high school, Jack served in the United States Navy. On July 12, 1958, Jack married Melba “Jitter” Brown and together they built an honorable life. Jack and Jitter were blessed with three children together: Billy, Rhonda, and Danny.

Jack never shied away from hard work. He worked building Soil Conservation dams to support his family and raise his children, then later worked hanging drywall in houses. It was often said he could outwork anyone half of his age, and others struggled to keep up with him. Jack was never seen without a smile on his face. He never met a stranger and always had a handshake ready for everyone. Jack loved sports and loved his Van Alstyne Panthers. He was, without a doubt, the Panthers’ biggest fan! He rarely missed a single game, no matter how far he had to travel. He loved watching his grandchildren play, but he considered each player on the team to be his own. Jack was once asked which kid on the field was his, to which he replied, “They’re all mine.” Jack was a member of the Van Alstyne Church of Christ. He was a man of strength, honesty, and had a heart of gold. Jack loved his family and enjoyed Sunday lunches where they could all get together. Simply put, Jack Turner was one of a kind.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Lynn Stephens, and granddaughter Kendall Hunter.

Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jitter Turner; son Billy of Denton, Texas; daughter Rhonda Hunter and husband, Gary of Van Alstyne, Texas; and son Danny of Van Alstyne, Texas; grandchildren Chad Hunter and wife Melinda; Billy Turner and wife Heather; Lindsay Thompson and husband Jay; and Zane Turner; great-grandchildren Callie and Riley Hunter, Raeley and Taylor Thompson, Skylar and Sage Turner—all of Van Alstyne; brother Kenneth Turner and wife Jean of Anna, Texas; sister Barbara Kay Hulon of Anna, Texas; and a lifetime of friends.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2021 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Scoggins Funeral Home in Van Alstyne. A service to honor and celebrate Jack will follow visitation at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery
