Dr. James Evans after practicing medicine and owning a drug store for several years, went into the business of raising thoroughbred shorthorn cattle. This is drawing of his home which he purchased in 1880. It was located 4 miles west of the square in Springfield on the A & P Railroad. Dr. Evans founded the town of Nichols Junction. He laid out the streets. In the early 1890s, the town had a Congregational Church and a Christian Church. My father and I looked for the town in the 1970s but found that Springfield had enveloped it.
